Misson
The mission of our Flex club, BLAST, is to provide students with an opportunity to further explore scientific experimentation in a low stress and supportive environment. While much of classroom work is purely theoretically based, our club would open options for hands on experiments. Through our club, we would aim to provide students with an enjoyable experience with Chemistry (and science in general), as well as work to build a positive connotation around experimentation, lab work, and Chemistry.

What We Do As A Club
Almost every meeting, our club plans to conduct a cool chemistry experiment involving an explosion, fire, or property change. Some experiments will require the entire meeting period to conduct, in which case we will need to use the prior meeting to prepare. Aside from these experiments, we plan to prepare, conduct, and debrief an experiment every club meeting. In addition to the experiments, we will also dedicate some time to understanding the "why" and "how" behind our experiments. BLAST focus on hands on experiments that extend beyond the typical lecture or theoretical learning in the classroom, providing a fun way to learn and explore chemistry and science in general.
Goals
Our goals are to provide club members with an action filled, hands on, science experience, as well as an opportunity to explore chemistry and science in a non classroom environment with low stress, motivated by personal interest in the experiment at hand. In the process, we hope to foster learning and interest in the aspect of chemistry we are observing. Right now, we feel Castilleja lacks an environment for students to do hands on experiments outside of class in which they are personally interested. We hope our club will give students the opportunity to explore chemistry outside of the classroom through fun and exciting experiments. We also feel Castilleja supports science programs, but there is no program centered around chemistry, nor is there a club that focuses solely on hands on experiments. In our club, we are devoted to providing hands on experiments almost every meeting, an aspect not shared in other clubs. In short, our club aims to blow stuff up and have fun while doing it!
