AboutA History of BLAST.
Established in 2017BLAST is a FLEX club, or student founded academic interest club, at Castilleja School. During their sophomore year, Katie and Claire (the co-founders and current leaders of BLAST) were required to conduct a demo project of their choice relating to chemistry. They conducted an experiment on the copper and nitric acid redox reaction and were fascinated by their other classmates’ experiments. In a desire to pursue this line of experimentation, they decided to form a club solely focused on labs and demonstrations. BLAST aims to delve into scientific exploration through hands-on experiments that drive the scientific mindset.
Our GoalThe mission of BLAST is to provide students with an opportunity to further explore scientific experimentation in a low stress and supportive environment. While much of classroom work is purely theoretically based, our club would open options for applicable examples of experiments. Through our club, we would aim to provide students with an enjoyable experience with Chemistry (and science in general), as well as work to build a positive connotation around experimentation, lab work, and Chemistry.

We're Here for You!If you have any concerns or ideas or simply want to talk about chemistry or science in general, we would love to chat with you! Make sure that if you are interested in our club (even just a little bit!) that you come by and talk to us so we can tell you more about our plans, or even just discuss some cool experiments!
